Blueman

Blueman was founded by entrepreneur David Azulay in the 1970s, and he continued to act as CEO of the company until he passed away in 2009. Although David admits that his fashion sense was lacking when the company began, he drew from the knowledge and creativity of his brother Simon Azulay. The two moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1967 from their native Bethlehem. In the early days, David took care of the accounting and paperwork while Simon designed the company\'s first swimsuits. The most popular of his early designs was a denim bikini. Blueman’s styles began to receive international notice because nothing like them was available at the time, and the brothers struggled to keep up with all of the new orders they were receiving. The company began in the Ipanema region of Rio de Janeiro, but with the first taste of success, David expanded its reach into Sao Paulo. Soon, Blueman bikinis could be found among the fashion elite of Paris, Milan and New York, which prompted him to develop new styles, the likes of which had never been seen. Some of these innovations include the bikini pouch and the bikini patchwork cord, which could be customized to the wearer’s tastes. In the 1980s, Blueman drifted through the growing fashion scene in Brazil, adopting the newly discovered tropical prints that made Brazil fashion famous. As the 1990s were underway, David and Simon worked to modernize the company for the new millennium, and David was able to see the company receive wide acclaim before his demise. Today, David’s daughter Sharon runs the company, and Simon’s son, Thomaz, leads the design team. They are dedicated to keeping Blueman’s original goals in mind as they lead the company into a new era of fashionable swimwear for both women and men.
